An Exfoliating Mitt is a Must – Have for Spray Tan Preparation

Do you want an even, long lasting spray tan? Then having an exfoliating mitt is a must for when it’s time to prepare for your spray tan appointment.

Exfoliating is crucial because it helps to create an even canvas for the spray tan to adhere to. It helps your skin absorb the tanning solution better, which can make the tan last longer and be more vibrant. When your spray tan begins to fade, it will also fade more evenly.

When you exfoliate, you’re sloughing off dead skin cells that can otherwise cause the tan to cling to dry or rough areas. If those dead skin cells remain, it can result in a blotchy, uneven tan, and that area may look darker. Your spray tan will fade unevenly as well.

Use an exfoliating mitt (or dry brush) to exfoliate. Ditch the loofah, because it is not as abrasive as a mitt. Following these simple steps to exfoliate:

1. Soak your skin in the bathtub or shower for a few minutes.

2. Wet your mitt, then wear it on your preferred hand.

3. Begin rubbing your skin in linear and circular motions. You will begin to see dead skin cells come off, and your skin may be slightly red in colour. This is normal.  Focus on dry areas like your elbows and knees, and don’t forget your face. A scrub is optional, but please do not use any soap.

4. Rinse your skin, and wash off dead skin cells with water.

5. Step out of the shower and pat dry with your towel.

6. Do not apply any moisturizers. You’re now ready for your spray tan appointment!

7. Wash your mitt and hang to dry. It can be reused for about 3 months before purchasing a new one for hygienic reasons.

Not only does exfoliation remove dead skin cells, lengthen the life of your spray tan, and prevent uneven fading, but it also has many great skin benefits, if done routinely:

1. Stimulates collagen production: Collagen supports skin structure and elasticity, leading to a firmer, more youthful appearance.

2. Unclogs pores and clears congestion: Regular exfoliation can prevent some acne, but be gentle and avoid scrubbing too vigorously

3. Stimulates blood flow/circulation: Delivers oxygen and nutrients to the skin, promoting a healthy complexion.

4. Ingrown hair prevention: Using an exfoliating mitt before and after hair removal reduces hair getting trapped beneath the surface of the skin.

Overall, exfoliating prevents many common spray tan mistakes and helps you get the most flawless results possible. Ask me how you can purchase an exfoliating mitt to prepare for your next Toronto Mobile spray tan appointment!
